About Speaker: Rozina Lakhani M.D, M.PH. She is a MEDICAL DOCTOR with specialization in general PSYCHIATRY. With over 15 of experience as a Psychiatric clinician, She serve a broad spectrum of patients with conditions like Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Stress related disorders. Both Art and Mindfulness have been well established tools that help to overcome effects of stress and rejuvenate mind and body. Art involving earth/clay has special ability to help you ground or become mindful. Mindfulness is a simple yet difficult to practice technique of being present in the moment. It has shown to be one of the most healing technique in treatment of stress related disorders. Now you can benefit from combined healing benefits of Mindfulness and Art to reduce your Stress, Anxiety and Depression in the program by Shifa Art.
Shifa (Healing) Art is a combined program of Shifa Health and Feel Artistic Art Studios to promote healing and relaxation by being creative. The group program “Mindfulness and Art- Reduce Stress, Anxiety and depression" is a 4 wk group program consisting of one hour of instructions on Mindfulness Techniques and one hour of Art.
Contents by weeks:
Wk 1: Saturday, November 14th, 2015, 11:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Instruction: Stress- its benefits and consequences. How Mindfulness and Art decrease stress. Attitudes of mindfulness -Patience, beginners mind and letting go.
Meditation: Abdominal Breathing.
Art: Hand building with clay.
Wk 2: Saturday, November 21st, 2015, 11:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Instruction: 7 elements of Mindfulness exercises- BREATHE i.e Being in now, Rain (Recognizing, allowing, Investigating and Non- identifying), Experiencing, accepting without Judgement, Thoughts, Heart-fulness and Empathy for others.
Meditation: Kindness Meditation.
Art: Centering on wheel.
Wk 3: Saturday, December 5th, 2015, 11:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Instruction: Overcoming obstacle in practice of Mindfulness.
Meditation: body scan.
Wk 4: Saturday, December 12th, 2015, 11:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Instruction: Maintaining a Life style of Mindfulness.
Meditation: Raisin exercise.
Art: Expressing emotions thru art.
Class set-up: Group of 5 to 8
Supplies: Pottery wheel, Loaner tool kit and 25 Lbs of clay bag. Additional clay bag can purchase at counter.
Class frequency: Meet once a week for two hours for four weeks.
