Drawing Exercise "Picasso Style faces"

 

"Pablo Picasso was an creative modern artist. He started painting at very young age and continue to learn and experiment different style. He was well train and knew the rules of drawing and painting very well. But one day, he decided to "break the rules" and to introduce his own style of work."



Grade Level: 1 - 6 garde

Instructional Goals:
Getting to know "Picasso" by reading stories about him and looking at his works. Students will produce their own Picasso-style painting

Materials:
Books/stories about Picasso
Painting of Picasso
Large pieces drawing papers
Markers and Crayons

Object use for this exercise: Picasso's painting

Activity:
Step 1: Display Picasso's painting.

Step 2: Ask the students what they think about it. The teacher should be sure to point out the colors that are used and the elementary approach to making faces.


Step 3: Introduce Pablo Picasso by reading stories about him and showing his works. Tell the students that they will have the chance to make their very own Picasso-inspired picture/faces.

Step 4: Give two pieces of drawing, markers and crayons

Step 5: Draw a different face on each piece of construction paper.

Step 6: Color the faces with crayons and colored markers.

Step 7: Cut the faces apart and use the parts to create a new and different, abstract face.

Step 8: Glue the new face to the large piece of construction paper.

Step 9: Use the crayons and markers to add any new details, if desired.

Step 10: Frame the Picasso face.

 

Creative Question:

1. What style does he use?Why do you think he uses the colors he does?
2. How could he rearrange the faces to look interesting or silly?
3. Do you see any sort of pattern that he seems to use in his paintings?
4. Why do you think Picasso chose to represent his figures in this manner?
