Hi Jalal,

Thank you for sending me your paintings. They are beautifully done.
I especially liked the "most merciful". The right side of the painting,
It may be unintentially done, conveys the continuous circle of life
Within God's spirit.

I particularly liked "most beneficient" because of the blue tones
you used. Although in a form of a sailboat, to me it depicts the
the return of each soul to the oneness of Allah.

From my perspective you may want to infuse, either an esoteric or
an exoteric meaning in your paintings that go beyond the visuals
of the names of Allah, to largely differentiate your artistic abilities.

I am still thinking what I can commision for you to do for my eventual
new house :)

Talk to you soon

“Jay Gilani’s gifts as an artist and teacher shine through his own amazing artwork. It inspires the heart and delights the eye. His portraits, building designs, breathtaking abstract art, landscapes, fun animations, and digital drawing come from an accomplished artist who can do it all.

Imagine expressing your own artistic feelings from a master artist. Jay Gilani is that artist. You and your children, under Jay’s guidance, will unlock the artist from within you. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. Become the artist you were meant to be.”

I met Jalal for the first time at one of our band rehearsals. I sing in a band where he plays the base guitar. After talking to him and seeing his passion for music and singing, I knew he was talented but what specifically drew my attention to his creative side was his brilliant abstract art display at one of the exhibitions. I was not only impressed but also taken aback by the splash of colors and the originality that he put into his art. It was just mind blowing. I knew then that I wanted to have him at my school to stir the imagination of my students.

I work at the Islamic school of Seattle as an Upper Elementary and Middle School teacher. We are a faith based Montessori school. I truly believe that a teacher’s job is to inspire, the learning happens automatically. I invited Jalal to teach art at my school. I distinctly remember it was his first day at school and he had brought some of his artwork to share with the students. One frame in particular had a story of his childhood. He shared that there was a mosque right across his home and he admired it so much that he felt like capturing his nostalgic memories onto paper. The drawing was very simple and it was done only with the use of charcoal, but the effect was extraordinary. It was this story that moved Mohammed M (a fifth grade student) and a genius was discovered.

Immediately after Jalal left, I saw he was up to something. He finished his lunch quickly and chose to be in the classroom during the recess time. The day was over and we all had forgotten about this over the weekend except Mohammed. On Monday, he came to the classroom and handed over something to me and Angelique (my co-teacher). It was the exact replica of the mosque shaded with charcoal that Jalal had brought in. It was truly an ‘Ah ha’ moment for me. We were awe struck by the sincerity; focus, passion and genius of this child. The whole class was very proud of him and applauded him for his effort.

I truly give credit to Jalal. The moment he walked into our classroom I knew he had bonded with the students. It was rather pleasing when I heard him talk in his first class about why we see the colors the way they are instead of colors itself and why would someone draw instead of what to draw. As Jalal always says, “Everyone is an artist”, I see he truly lives this philosophy.

If looking at the master’s art can inspire a child so much then I am convinced that learning from the master himself can do wonders.
