Drawing Exercise 103 "Drawing upside down"

This is most enjoyable activity. Students will have fun seeing familiar objects with different, odd angles. "Much of our understanding of the world is based upon visual experience. We can change that experience by altering the way in which things appear to us"*.

Art Exercise 101 "LEARN TO SEE"

Observe and Absorb

Grade Level: Open for all ages

Instructional Goal: Art is not only about how to draw and paint. Its more about quality of seeing in our daily life and how we observe and absorb things around us. This is designed to be a fun activity that introduces children to improve their art skills as well as the power of observation.

Materials: Pencils, Paper (No eraser )

Objects use for drawing: Cell phone, Bowl, Player, CD Cover, Book, Flower, Box, Lamp, Shapes, Chair etc

Activity:

Step 1. Display all objects on table.

Step 2. Talk about structure of each object.

Step 3. Give average time for observation.

Step 4. Give drawing paper and pencil

Step 5. Ask student to select one of the object and draw it on piece of paper.

Step 6. Show object again and ask an item they have just trying to reproduce.

Step 7. Ask them to take a close look of item.

Step 8. Ask student again to draw similar object.

Creative Questions:

Second attempts will usually be more accurate as compare to first. Discuss this with student.

1- Which drawing you think more accurate.

2- Why second attempt is more accurate than first.

Remember, goal is not to evaluate the accuracy of drawing but to help them to understand improvement is not because of second attempt or how many times you have seen, isn't quantity but its all about quality. How accurate you observe and absorb.

3- Discuss reasons of improvement.

Closing comment: Beside building skills and power of awareness, at the end of excersize student will recognize how much we miss wonders and beauty of the world, and how most of the time we take it as granted.
